Setting Shift Sequence for OEE or DPU charts

These two settings configure how the Day/Shift option will work when grouping data for OEE Charts and DPU charts.

You can configure the Day/Shift option to group data by work shifts within a specified 24-hour period for up to three shifts:

• Three 8-hour shifts

• Two 12-hour shifts, or

• One 24-hour "shift."

The Shift Sequence= and Start of work day = settings are to used to set these values. The second traceability field must be set to Shift for these settings to work.

If your organization does not have shifts or regular shifts, clear the value for the Shift Sequence = xxx value (so it reads like this: Shift Sequence=    ).

It is important that you use these settings to keep your data associated with the correct workday, especially if any of your shifts span two days (for example, if Shift3 begins at 11pm and ends at 7am the next day). When you set the Shift Sequence... , GainSeeker is programmed to group the shift data with the correct day, even if the shift time may vary within hours.

Accessing the settings

Navigate to the Shift Sequence= and Start of work day = settings on the Configurations tab of the System Administration module following this path:

Shift Sequence=

The Shift Sequence= defines the sequence and number of shifts in a typical workday in your organization. While this may seem obvious, many company workdays begin with a Shift 3-1-2 cycle in a 24-hour period:

• Shift3 starts at 11pm and ends at 7am the following day, followed by Shift1 from 7am to 3pm, and then Shift 2 from 3pm to 11pm. For this example your shift sequence value would be Shift Sequence=312 (or CAB) ("312" indicating Shift3, Shift1, Shift2, and in that order).

GainSeeker bases the 24-hour period for your workday and shifts on the Start of work day setting. This is used to define the time of the day on which the Shift Sequence = value is based.

For example, if you want to track data from midnight to 11:59pm each day, you would enter 00:00 as the Start of work day value. GainSeeker then looks at your Shift Sequence setting value to begin tracking data for the shift list as occurring first in your set 24-hour workday period.

Common settings for Shift sequence= are:

• 312, 123, CAB, ABC, 12, AB

• Three alpha or numeric characters indicates three shifts; two characters, two shifts; and one character indicates a 24-hour period as determined, which is also determined by the Start of work setting value

To set the Shift Sequence=:

• Right-click the setting and enter a value as shown in the following table.

Start of work day =

GainSeeker uses this setting to determine the start time (the hour and minute) for your 24-hour work period for which data will be collected. For example, if you set the start value of 6am, GainSeeker will collect data from 6am one day to 5:59am the following day each week.

This will affect the starting and ending dates and times of most predefined date periods. The examples below use the Gregorian calendar with the First day of the week set to Sunday.

Note: GainSeeker makes ample allowance for shifts that begin several hours earlier or later than the expected time. If your first shift of the day (Shift3) for this example, usually begins at 11pm, and the shift starts somewhat earlier or later than 11pm, GainSeeker still keeps track of all the data for that shift and those that follow.

Example

If your Shift3 runs from 11pm to 7am at times and from 12:30am to 8:30am at other times (or 10:30pm to 6:30am), the data is still correctly saved as Shift3 data. If your shift3 is usually the 11pm to 7am time period, you would set your Start of work day value to 23:00 (11pm).

To set the Start of work day=:

• Right-click the setting and enter a value for the hour and minute using the 24-hour clock as the time increment (0:00 to 24:00, for example). This should be usual the time you consider to be the start of each workday. GainSeeker allows for shifts that do not always start at the given time.
