Timed AutoStart

Using the Timed AutoStart enables you to automate many of GainSeeker SPC’s capabilities. You can eliminate many steps for your data entry operators or other users by setting certain functions to recur automatically.

Run Timed AutoStart once

Launch Start32.exe from the folder where GainSeeker program files (*.exe) exist.

Use the Application box to specify the program you want to run at a specific time. You may select one of the SPC or DMS modules from the drop-down list, or use the Browse button to select any other program (*. exe).

To add any parameters to your program, type the parameters in the Command line parameters box. For a list of parameters that can be used with SPC modules, see Setting up icons to perform automatic functions.

Then select when or how frequently you want this application to occur. If you click on Time of day, you can select the point in an hourly cycle when an application will occur. If you click on Once a day, you can select the point in a 24-hour cycle when the application will occur.

Click on Start to begin the Timed AutoStart function. The program will run your application at the specified times.

Note: Rebooting your computer exits the Timed AutoStart function. To enable Timed AutoStart automatically, even if you reboot your computer, see Running Timed AutoStart automatically.

Running Timed AutoStart automatically

To automatically enable Timed AutoStart on your computer, copy the Timed AutoStart icon from the QA_S GainSeeker SPC program group (on the Start menu) to the StartUp program group (also on the Start menu). If you need help performing this function, consult your Windows manual or ask your computer department for assistance.

Next, edit the properties of the Timed AutoStart icon in the StartUp program group, and add any of the following parameters to the Target line:

Basic parameters

For "application name", enter the full file path and file name (*. exe) of the application that you want for Timed AutoStart to run.

To add any parameters to you program, specify those parameters in "command line parameters for the application".  For a list of parameters that can be used with SPC modules, see Setting up icons to perform automatic functions.

By adding this, you can start the timer automatically instead of clicking on the Start button each time.

Use this parameter to specify " T" (Time of day, default setting) or "O" (Once a day). See below for further details on using these two options.

Time of day parameters

If you use -X: T" (Time of day), then the following parameter also may be used:

-i:"1" (Start on the hour, default setting)

-i:"2" (Start on the 1/4 hour),

-i:"3" (Start on the 1/2 hour)

-i:"4" (Start on the 3/4 hour)

Once a day parameters

If you use -X: "O" (Once a day), then the following parameters also may be used:

Example command line

If your parameters require quotes around sections, you must enclose the entire set of parameters inside single quotes. There is no limit on the parameters included on the command line, as long as they are all nested in the single quotes.

For example, if you want to automatically start a SPC Charts and Reports every afternoon at 3:30 for the Tour Manager user and open the desktop ‘DAILY PROCESS DESKTOP’, you could add these parameters to the Timed AutoStart Target line in the StartUp program group:

-A:" SPC.EXE" -C:’- N:"TOUR MANAGER" –DO:”DAILY PROCESS DESKTOP”’- E -X:"0" -D:"0" - Y:"1" -H:"3" - M:"30"
