Selecting multiple items

You can use any of these preferred methods to select multiple items on which you want to perform a single action.

For example, you could select a large number of part numbers using these steps. Then, copy or delete them in a single additional step. This would save you the time and effort it would take to delete each part number one at a time.

Select several items that are listed in sequence—

For example, in the following list, you want to select the names of Betty, Bobby, Carol, Tom (but not Linda and Joe).

 

Linda

Betty

Bobby

Carol

Tom

Joe

Use one of these preferred methods:

  1. Click the first item you want to select (Betty, for this example).

  2. Press and hold the SHIFT key.

  3. Scroll to the last item you want to select (Tom, for this example) and click on it.
    All items between and including the first and last items (Betty, Bobby, Carol, Tom) will be selected.

or

  1. Click the first or last item you want to select.

  2. Press and hold the SHIFT key.

  3. Press the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll up or down the list as you click other items in sequence that you want to select.

Select several items not listed in succession—

For example, in the following list, you want to select the names of Linda, Betty, Joe.

Linda

Betty

Bobby

Carol

Tom

Joe

Click an item you want to select (Linda, for this example), then press and hold the CTRL ("control") key while clicking additional items (Betty, Joe).

Select all the items in the list—

For example, in the following list, you want to select all the names:

Linda

Betty

Bobby

Carol

Tom

Joe

Press and hold the CTRL key and A key.
