Requirements for TCP/IP data entry

There are several requirements for TCP/IP communication to function correctly:

• The device has been assigned a static IP address by the network administrator.
  
  If using DHCP, make sure that this is an address that DHCP cannot reassign.  

• The device has been configured for this unique IP address and a Port number.
  
  For example, GageWay devices must be configured using the GWSetup program that is shipped with a new device, via an RS-232 connection with a workstation.  

• The device has been connected to the local area network.
  
  Each device will need its own network connection.  If you are adding new devices to your system, your network administrator may need to set up additional network connections.

• The workstation running GainSeeker can ping the device via its IP address.
  
  For example, to ping the address "10.0.0.1", you would type the following at an MS-DOS prompt:
       ping 10.0.0.1
  The device should return some text from this command.
