Creating standards when necessary

In some situations when reading part number information from the query result set, your query result set might contain data for a part number that has not yet been entered into the SPC or DMS system.

If you are designing this template to run without any operator input, you may want to have the template automatically create a standard for the part number, then store the associated data with this new standard.  To choose this option, select the Create SPC standards and/or the Create DMS standards check box.  When you select this option, the formulas in the resulting template will check the Part Number field to make sure that a standard by the same name exists, and if necessary they create the missing standard and fill it with several settings.  You can use the Template Wizard to edit the formulas in the SPC Create and/or the DMS Create column to pre-fill the standard with additional settings such as specification limits, or you can manually edit such a standard to add these other settings.

Note: DMS standards are based on two components, a part number and a process.  If the template is configured to create missing DMS standards automatically, it can only do so if an existing process is specified.  By default, the template cannot automatically create a DMS process.

If you are certain that the standards that will be needed to run this template on your query result set already exist in your system, you can clear the Create SPC standards and/or the Create DMS standards check box.  This will help your template to run faster because it does not have to check for the existence of standards before processing the data.
