Building a Pareto chart: Selecting the Part Number

The second part of the first step in creating a Pareto chart is to select the part numbers you want to analyze. The Part Number tab is always included on the Pareto Chart Builder as part of the first step. If you choose One Process, One Part as your starting point, then it is the only tab you will see. Otherwise, it is shared with the Process tab. If you have specified one or more processes on the Process tab, then all the parts for those processes are highlighted for the chart by default.

You can select one or more part numbers to chart. There is no default part number selected.

Searching for a part number in a large database

A quick way to find a part number in a long list is to use the Search option.

The Priority list is specific for each user.

Another option available to you in narrowing your search is the Priority List. For example, if you choose One Process, One Part Number at the Where do you want to start? screen, you may have a hard time finding the part numbers you want in your full part number list.

When SPC or DMS standards are deleted from the Part Number list, the program also deletes those standards from the priority lists of all other associated user names’ lists it appears on.
