You can set up data entry workstations to send a page or email when a failure occurs, without requiring a modem and phone line at each computer. Instead, you can set up the data entry workstations to save the failure information in a text file on the network. Then one computer with a modem and telephone line can run Watch-IT ASCII to scan for the presence of the text file and send the message to the designated pager number or e-mail address.
