Citrix and Windows Terminal Services requirements

Network configuration

GainSeeker stores user-specific information in a Cms.ini file in each user's Home directory on the terminal server. Multiple servers in a cluster should be set up with a single Profiles folder so that each network user has only one Home directory in the cluster.

.Net Framework

The Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5 Service Pack 1 and version 4.8 are both required to run GainSeeker.

The Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.5 is also required to run GS Analyze.

The web installers are included in the installation package in the Prerequisites\Framework folder. They require internet access and will download the needed files.

Alternately, you can use the links below to download the full offline installers:

A computer reboot may be required, and you will need to restart the GainSeeker installation after the .Net Framework has been installed.

Database client and ODBC driver

The database client and/or ADO.NET driver for your GainSeeker database is required on every computer that will run GainSeeker programs.

For a new workstation that must run legacy modules such as SPC Data Entry, DMS Data Entry, SPC Charts and Reports, DMS Charts and Reports, SPC Database Monitor, Enterprise Dashboard, etc., you must first install GainSeeker client version 9.3.2 or lower and then upgrade that workstation to the latest version of GainSeeker. This will install the ODBC drivers needed to run these legacy modules.

Because the latest version of the MySQL database that worked consistently with GainSeeker is no longer supported, Hertzler Systems no longer recommends MySQL as one of the database options for new deployments of GainSeeker, and MySQL components are no longer included with GainSeeker installation media.

Existing MySQL deployments are still supported.

For a new GainSeeker deployment on a free database, Hertzler recommends Microsoft SQL Server Express.

Hardware requirements

For Citrix or Windows Terminal Services, your requirements will depend on the number of concurrent users and the complexity of their activities. A list of requirements is available on the Hertzler Systems website at www.hertzler.com/support/it-requirements/

Requirements for RS-232 data entry

To perform automated data entry from devices with serial (RS-232) output, you must use one of the following systems:

Display resolution

The minimum display resolution for installing and using GainSeeker is 1024 by 768 pixels. At this resolution, Windows must be configured to display small fonts.

To display large fonts, the display resolution must be greater than 1024 by 768 pixels. On some systems, the display of large fonts has been known to cause problems in some situations.

Installed printer

To use the Report Writer in the Charts and Reports modules, the workstation must have a printer installed. You do not have to actually print to the printer, but one must be installed because GainSeeker uses the printer device context to display the report.

Date and Time formats

The character used for the Windows Date separator must be different from that used for the Windows Time separator. Also, the Windows Short date format and Long date format must use the same display order for the month, day and year.

It is recommended that the Windows Short date format be configured to display a four-digit year. When displaying a two-digit year, GainSeeker will use the Microsoft standard windowing technique to convert the date/time stamp to a four-digit year when a record is stored in the database.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 or later is required for the GainSeeker Import Export Manager module to export data in XML format. It is also a requirement for the SPC Data Entry module if you wish to view ActiveMovie files on the Video tab in a data entry session.

Browsers for GS Analyze

GS Analyze is optimized for browsers on tablets and smart phones as well as PCs. Supported browsers include Google Chrome versions 47 and later, Mozilla Firefox versions 43 and later, Internet Explorer versions 9 and later (including Microsoft Edge), and Safari versions 9 and later.
