Let’s talk about GainSeeker 8.6. We released GainSeeker 8.6 at the end of September. A lot of our customers have already requested and installed the update. If you haven’t yet, this post is for you.
When you call for support, one question I typically ask is “What version of GainSeeker are you running?” In all honesty, the answer is usually not the current release. I know this question may not seem important, but it is. Here are a few reasons why:
- The issue/question/request could have been implemented/fixed in a newer release
- Your version may be outdated and un-supported
- Different versions have slight variations for how I answer your question
We like to see all our customers on the newest version. How else can you take advantage of all the new features?? Let’s take this time to discuss two of the new
features in GainSeeker 8.6 because they are definitely worth mentioning!
Expanded Traceability Values
Question: Have you wished for more than 30 characters to specify your Standard? What about the 14 character limitation for the description field for the Standard? Wo
uldn’t it be nice to be able to make it the size that best suits YOUR needs?
Answer: We received numerous requests from you (our loyal customers) regarding this topic. As a result of those requests GainSeeker 8.6 allows you to define the maximum character limits for Standards, Descriptions, and Traceability!! How exciting! If you think that is big news I have some more
for you.
Reduced Database Size Requirements
Question: Does the size of your GainSeeker database become the topic of discussion more often than not? I know we all wish our servers could be big, powerful, and the capacity size of King Kong. The key word being “wish.” Nevertheless we do the best we can with what we have. Either way I’m sure you are wondering how can version 8.6 help?
Answer: With GainSeeker 8.6, we reduced the database size for MS SQL, MySQL, and MariaDB. By utilizing variable-length records instead of fixed-length records we reduced the size of some of our tables! This requires your IT person being comfortable with SQL scripting along with some System Administration changes. To find more information on this check out our help file. Click on the Index tab and type the keyword “expanded data fields.” This procedure is not covered by our support staff under normal support, but as a paid service we would be happy to do this for you.
