The number of rows in the template should usually equal the maximum number of characteristics for which you will enter data in this template.
For example, if you are building a template to measure the characteristics
length
out-of-round
protrusion length
then you should set the number of rows to 3.
The maximum number of rows you can create is 99.
Note: Selecting the Use advanced settings check box in step 2 or in step 5 of the Template Wizard allows you to add or delete rows at that step. If you select the Use advanced settings check box in step 2 or in step 5, and then return to step 1, the number of rows in template box will no longer be available on step 1. Instead, a message will tell you which step will allow you to change the number of rows in the template.
:
You should decide whether you want to read the across the rows of the template (horizontally) or down the columns of the template (vertically). This setting is determined by how you plan to measure data.
To enter data by characteristic, you should step through by Row. For example, if I am measuring
length
out-of-round
and protrusion length
on a subgroup of 5 pieces, stepping through by row means measuring
the length on all 5 pieces, followed by
the out-of-round on all 5 pieces, followed by
the protrusion length on all 5 pieces.
To measure all of the characteristics on one piece at a time, you should step through by Column. For example, if I am measuring
length
out-of-round
and protrusion length
on a subgroup of 5 pieces, stepping through by column means that I measure
the length, out-of-round and protrusion length on the first piece, followed by
the length, out-of-round and protrusion length on the second piece, followed by
the length, out-of-round and protrusion length on the third piece, followed by
the length, out-of-round and protrusion length on the fourth piece, followed by
the length, out-of-round and protrusion length on the fifth piece.
This setting determines how the data entry operator will know which row they are on, so they can enter data or traceability information for the appropriate characteristic.
Your choices for the default prompt message are:
Standard: Part Number – This is the part number and characteristic, the name of the standard that you select when you run the template. (Default)
Standard: Description – This is the short description that you entered for the part number and characteristic.
Standard: Part Number and Description – Combined part number, characteristic and description for the standard that you select when you run the template.
Template row label – This can reflect one of two values. By default, it will reflect the row number for the cell currently being used. However, the advanced settings for step 2 of the Template Wizard allow you to enter a text label for each row of the template. If you define these text labels for the rows of the template, then selecting Template row label will reflect the row label for the cell currently being used.
Nothing – Do not indicate to the data entry operator which is the current row.
