Exporting and Importing templates

You can export and import templates from the File menu of the SPC Designer module.

Exporting templates

Exporting a template does not remove it from GainSeeker— it only copies the template and associated files to the folder you specify.

To export a template from the SPC Designer module:

  1. Launch the SPC Designer module and log in.

  2. In the Templates list, click the template you want to export.

  3. Click the File menu, and then click Export.

  4. Select the folder to which the template files should be copied.

  5. Specify a name (filename.dev) for the exported template file, and then click OK.

The template will be copied to the folder you have selected.

If the exported template contained any tabs on Template Wizard Step 6 that reference another file— such as a document or image— that file is also copied to the selected folder, and the exported template is automatically modified to reference the file in this folder.

Files referenced by template formulas or by the External applications button are not exported with the template.

Each time you export a template, GainSeeker will automatically add or update a portion of the note that explains how each traceability field is labeled. This portion of the note will always begin with the text "Trace Labels Exported:" and end with "Export Date (date)".

Importing templates

To import a template using the SPC Designer module:

  1. Launch the SPC Designer module and log in.

The user or group name used to log in will determine the database into which the template will be imported.

  2. Click the File menu, and then click Import.

  3. Select the folder containing the template file you want to import.

  4. Click the template file (filename.dev) you want to import, and then click OK.

  5. If prompted to do so, specify the name you want to use for this template in GainSeeker, and then click OK.

The template will be imported into GainSeeker.

If the imported template contained any tabs on Template Wizard Step 6 that reference another file— such as a document or image— that file will also be imported into the folder containing *.dev files. Also, the imported template is automatically modified to reference the file in this folder.

Files referenced by template formulas or by the External applications button are not imported with the template.
