Analyzing External Data

Viewing the first chart of the external data

After you have finished accessing external data via a template or planned session or via the Clipboard, GainSeeker displays a chart window of the data just entered for each standard.  Each standard's data is displayed in a separate chart window.

By default, the chart window displayed is a Control Chart.  To set a different default chart type, use the Administration module to change the Cms.ini setting for Default chart drawn for external data (extchart=).

Editing the data accessed from an external source

When a chart window of the external data is displayed on the screen, you can duplicate the window as a Data Table and edit the data, traceability and notes if needed.  When viewing a Control Chart of the external data, you can right-click any data point on the chart to edit data and notes.

Using analysis tools

All of the standard features for editing data and notes and for analyzing data and printing reports are available when charting external data, except for the following:

If these features are needed, you can save the external data in GainSeeker and then delete the range of data from GainSeeker when finished.

Saving or dropping the external data

When a chart window of external data is displayed on the screen, you can save that data to the GainSeeker database by clicking the File menu, pointing to External Data, and clicking Save.

This will store the data records and associated note records for the current chart window.  If a temporary standard was created for this external data, it will be stored as well.

If you do not want to save the external data, simply close all chart windows associated with that data.  Any temporary standard that was created for this external data will be dropped when the SPC Charts and Reports module is closed.
