Hertzler Systems Inc. is planting hundreds of trees to sequester carbon dioxide and beautify neighborhood.

Goshen, IN, March 27, 2009 – Hertzler Systems Inc., a leading provider of SPC Software, KPI Software, and Operational Intelligence software, announced today that is planting 600 trees at it’s Goshen, Indiana headquarters. The effort supports environmental sustainability and will sequester many tons of carbon dioxide over the life of the trees.
According to company President, Evan Miller, the project came out of a desire to take action for environmental sustainability. “In our business, we’re always on the road to meet our customers. This means we fly and drive a lot. We felt we needed to do something to give something back to sustain the health of our environment.”
Miller went on to explain that the project makes better use of existing land. ”Our building sits on a two acre plot, but we occupy only one of those acres. Over the last several years, the unoccupied land became overgrown with weeds and brush. It was an ugly waste of space. In 10 or 15 years we expect we’ll have a nice little woods that provides shade and shelter for birds and other animals.
Hertzler’s project gained instant support from local environmentalists and business leaders. Aaron Sawatsky-Kingsley, City Forester for Goshen said, “What Hertzler Systems is doing with that property is a model for our community and beyond. Just within our town there are many acres of unused, privately-owned land. Planting trees on this land has so many benefits for the environment, the economy, and for our quality of life.
