Selecting Settings options for DMS Charts

Some information in this topic may be specific to the GainSeeker Charts module.

The Settings tab can be used to change retrieval, display, and other settings for new and existing charts. There are multiple options for chart settings using the Settings tab expandable tree structure.

Applying Settings to Charts

There are some differences between the DMS Charts tab (which displays when you create a new chart) and the Chart Settings dialog (which displays when you select the Settings... option from the right-click menu for a chart) with regard to how changes are applied to charts. This is detailed in the following table.

Action

Result

Duration

Action 1:
  • Changes are made in the Settings tab when a new chart is being created using the DMS Charts dialog:
  • Those changes are applied to that chart and any new charts that are created while that session of the GainSeeker Charts module remains open.
  • When the GainSeeker Charts module is closed for that session and later reopened, the Settings tab settings will revert to the default chart settings in the GainSeeker Administration module.
Action 2:
  • Changes are made to an existing chart using the Settings... option on the right-click menu for a chart:
  • Those changes are applied to that chart only.
  • When the GainSeeker Charts module is closed for that session and GainSeeker Charts is later reopened, the Settings tab settings revert to the default chart settings in the GainSeeker Administration module.
Action 3:
  • The changes are the new default settings the next time the GainSeeker Charts module is opened.
  • This is a "permanent" setting until the default chart settings are changed in the GainSeeker Administration module.

(Temporary changes can still be made to new charts using Action 1 or 2 above.)

Action 4:
  • Use the Restore Defaults button on the Settings tab to apply default settings (as set for that configuration in the System Administration module) to a new chart you draw:
  • The new chart displays all the default chart settings for a configuration as set in the Systems Administration module.

  • When the GainSeeker Charts module is closed for that session and GainSeeker Charts is later reopened, the Settings tab settings display default chart settings in the GainSeeker System Administration module.

(Temporary changes can still be made to new charts using Action 1 or 2.)

Action 5:
  • Save one or more charts with specific settings as a Desktop for future reference:
  • Any charts saved as a desktop will have the same settings as when they were saved to the desktop each time the user opts to open it in the GainSeeker Charts module.
  • Permanent as long as the Desktop is not user-deleted.
